Jacquie Harcus - AAP Manager
I have been involved in Outdoor Education for over 20 years, initially through working in youth services, on DofE open award expeditions and as an instructor with an adventure project.
I am a Summer Mountain Leader, UKCC Level 2 Paddlesport Coach, RYA Dinghy Instructor and a JNC qualified Youth and Community Worker with a first class honours degree in Psychology.
We are a small company that focus on providing expeditions/staffing and/or guidance that fits with your organisation. We have experience of planning and delivering expeditions in the North and South Downs, North Wales, Brecon Beacons the Peak Distict, Ashdown Forest and Dartmoor.
We aim to give you a ‘young person’ focused service that provides the technical expertise and experience for expeditions and training which is personable and enjoyable. We will plan logistics, training, kit and staff for your DofE expedition. Our approach is different because we are aware of the demands both physical and emotional that expeditions have on young people. We aim to support young people to make the most of their opportunity and benefit from the challenges that it will present.
I am also a Tutor for Intro to the DofE, Expedition Supervisor, Expedition Assessor Accreditation Schemes and The Countryside Leader Award as well as a DofE Accredited Bronze, Silver and Gold Assessor.
From 2007 to 2013, I was a Project Manager/DofE Manager and Instructor for Croydon Council. I was responsible for the delivery of DofE borough wide, an Open Award and the initial development, co-ordination and delivery of outdoor activities. This included climbing, paddling, team building, archery, mountain biking and equipment hire. I did this alongside running a young people’s sailing association!
Since then, I’ve also worked as an Operations Officer for the London Region DofE Office.
As a youth worker, I’ve worked with young people who have been disadvantaged, with learning and physical disabilities and who have been homeless. This included working within schools, youth services, outdoor projects and youth justice. I’ve also worked as an assistant educational psychologist, therapist and support worker for adults with mental health difficulties.
I know that working in the outdoors with people is where I need to be and what I enjoy doing.
